View Adium Chat History

Adium has a feature called “message history”. When you open a new chat with a person, message history shows you the last n messages from your previous chat with that person, to remind you of the discussion from last time.

But how to view the messages older than n messages? Did you lost them all? I don’t think so

Chat Transcripts and Message History

By default, Adium records your chat transcripts (in a location which only you or someone with administrator-level access to your computer can view), making their full contents available for viewing and searching via the Chat Transcript Viewer and displaying recent messages when you open new chat windows.

How do I view my chat transcripts?

• To see all logs, select “Chat Transcripts Viewer” from the Window menu.

• To view logs of conversations with just one contact, select that contact, then select “View Chat Transcripts” from the Contact menu.

How do I disable recording of messages?

You can disable logging from the General pane of Adium’s Preferences.

You can disable in-window message history, which displays recent lines of conversation when you open a chat window, from the “Message History” section of the Advanced pane of Adium’s Preferences. In-window message history depends upon chat transcripts, so if you disable chat transcript logging, no message history will be kept.

How do I backup or move my chat transcripts?

Backing up your history or transferring it to another computer is simple. You can copy the folder listed above from one computer to another, to a CD, or to another location for backup.
